Selective Arterial Embolization of Renal Arteriovenous Fistula after Renal Biopsy : A Case Report and Review of Literatures

Abstract

|
Renal arteriovenous fistula after renal biopsy is a reatively rare complication. Treatment consists of conservative care, partial or total nephrectomy, ligation of branch artery and transcatheter artheral embolization. Selective arterial
embolization
using embolic material was found to be useful in the manageement of arteriovenous fistula with severe bleeding which was not controlled with conservative care. It afforded also saving other uninvolved healthy renal parenchyme.
We report a case of renal arteriovenous fistula after renal biopsy, successfully treated with selective arterial embolization with gelfoam sponge, with review of literatures reported in Korea.
